Dear future franchisees
If you are reading this, you are about to experience the toughest summer of your life. Don’t get me wrong, painting a house is not hard, getting leads, doing estimates, and booking jobs are all straight forward. On its own, each step of running a franchise gets tough. On a day to day basis you will be having to get leads and book jobs in order to keep your painters working. On top of this you must focus on managing painters to finish the current painting at hand. At first it feels as if there are not enough hours in a day to get this all done, and in some ways this is true. You waste countless hours of every day without even noticing, maybe you went to the paint store 6 times today or drove across town a few too many times to move equipment. There are days where nothing goes right, painters quit and clients complain, by the end of it you just want to pull your hair out and quit. However these are the most important times where you have to dig deep and push through it. Just take it hour-by-hour, day-by-day, doing one task at a time. Because with hard work, these problems get resolved.
With so many things that go wrong people often question why I am coming back for a 3rd year. simple, I have a million reasons for coming back year after year. To start, the experience you gain from pushing through problems like this are second to none. The life lessons you are taught are some of the most rewarding things that come with this job. The best part of this job is that you alone; you are surrounded by the best community of people, who are all facing the same problems. You spend your summer with these people, helping each other out, at payroll events, and just rel those people that make coming back year after year so rewarding. On top of your peers you have a district manager who spends every minute of everyday helping you from behind the scenes, they are your best and worst friend, they go through every up and down with you. They are there to help you succeed and also give you that extra push or reassurance when times get tough, and I 100% know without the endless help of my district manager I would not have done as well as I did or be the person I am today. Having that relationship with my district manager, as a mentor and a friend makes it a no brainer to come back to this job. The last reason for coming back is the freedom this job brings you. Sure you work hard for 6 months of the year but when its all said and done you have the money to pay for another year of school, go on that vacation or buy the car you have been looking at, without having to worry about working till next season.
At the end of the day a summer with Student Works will have its ups and downs, many mornings work, the support of peers and the determination to keep going you will have one of the most enjoyable and rewarding summers of your life.
I look forward to seeing you next year at training.Andy
